Sought, and not found

Thesis

Ezekiel 26:21 says Tyre will be sought and not found again, forever. Matthew finds her coasts, and he keeps her name on the day of judgment. He does not quote the verse.

The record

KJV Ezekiel 26:21: "I will make thee a terror, and thou shalt be no more: though thou be sought for, yet shalt thou never be found again, saith the Lord GOD."

The verbs are בָּקַשׁ, "seek," and מָצָא, "find," plus עוֹד לְעוֹלָם, "again, forever." Document clock.

What Matthew says.

KJV Matthew 11:21–22: "if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you."

KJV Matthew 15:21: "Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon."

He speaks Tyre as a city that would have repented, as a party still present at the judgment, and as a region he can leave for. He does not say she was sought and not found. He does not cite Ezekiel.

Neighbor, not this verse. KJV Matthew 16:18: "thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church." The Greek rock there is πέτρα. The verb is "I will build." Ezekiel 26:14 said not built again, and the rock there was סֶלַע. Matthew 16:18 does not say Tyre.

The split

One line: "never be found again" is not cancelled by a later visit, and a later visit is not a fulfillment of "not found." Matthew uses the name. Ezekiel says the search fails forever. Both sentences stay.

What the record does carry: Matthew's Tyre is findable in his own narrative, and he still has a judgment for her that is lighter than Chorazin and Bethsaida. That is a comparison. It is not an exegesis of 26:21.

The house reading

I set what Mateo says next to the search that fails. He walks to her region. He keeps her name on the day of judgment and says her case is lighter than the towns that saw the works. Ezekiel says: sought, and not found, forever. I do not spend the walk to buy the erasure, and I do not spend the erasure to buy the walk.

The man called Mateo is not this verse. The gospel is.
